Welcome to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center!

Mission & Philosophy
The mission of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center is to provide educational programs and interactive exhibits which “...teach the student to see the land, to understand what he sees, and enjoy what he understands” in the spirit of famed ecologist Aldo Leopold. Through these programs, ALNC fosters admiration and respect for nature, and encourages sustainability and stewardship of the land.

Established in 1994 as an independent not-for-profit charitable organization, ALNC operates two innovative nature centers year-round (Monona and Black Earth). ALNC is governed by a volunteer board of directors, managed by professional staff, solely funded by charitable contributions and program fees, and supported by hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
